Going away is great, but what you really need is someone who knows the area and the places to visit. to.uri.st is about finding those local attractions you never knew existed. Using to.uri.st you can search through over 17,000 attractions by geographical location, in over 14 countries.
You are also invited to help improve the data via a wiki-esk Web interface; you can add attractions, improve the available information and help inform others of great places you've been. The to.uri.st database is licensed under a Creative Commons license allowing everyone to have equal access to the data via the to.uri.st website or Web API.
How does it work?
We have a Web spider that we program with the details of different tourist information sites around the World. The spider is then let loose on the site, scraping the data and geocoding it onto the map. See our Coverage page to see where we're up to.
Some data is good, some not so good, some just a title and a geocoded point. That's where the community comes in, to.uri.st isn't just a map of spidered data, it's also a kind of Wiki allowing anyone to update the data as they see fit.
See the Spider page for more information on how our spider works and how you can get involved in programming it to spider new sites.
